By SportsDirect Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins will not make his return to the diamond for Tuesday’s game against the Atlanta Braves. Rollins was eligible to return from the 15-day disabled list, but his groin strain has not completely healed. “I think it’s going to be a day-to-day thing as to when he’s going to be ready, and ready to go,” Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said. “But he’s getting closer.” Rollins, who was injured while robbing Washington’s Jesus Flores of a base hit, is batting .268 with 14 homers and 58 RBIs this season. The Phillies cruised to a 9-0 triumph in the series opener on Monday to extend their lead in the National League East to 8 1/2 games.

Associated Press August 16, 2011, 8:25 p.m.
Philadelphia Phillies All-Star left-hander Cole Hamels will skip at least one turn in the rotation because of shoulder inflammation. Hamels complained that he wasn’t able to get loose in his last start Friday against Washington. He lasted only five innings in a 4-2 loss and dropped to 13-7 with a 2.62 earned-run average. Phillies General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said an MRI showed inflammation near the rotator cuff. Amaro said there is no structural damage. This is the first trip to the DL for Pierzynski, who leads American League catchers in batting average, games played and innings caught. That’s all for today guys, i’ll be back to blog you tomorrow.
